Taiwan: Day 7 (Taipei)

Third day in Taipei was mostly about food.

That morning, we went to Ay-Chung Flour-Rice Noodle as our first stop. It was really close to where we stayed. Well, it wasn’t really worth the hype but worth the try so, don’t put high expectation for it.

Next, we went to Fong Da Coffee. It was well known being around for more than 50 years. Since the husband is a coffee addict, we had a break here before we went to Mala Hot Pot for our brunch. I ordered hot chocolate for myself and it was great too.

Our main highlight for the day was Mala Hot Pot. There are a few levels of spiciness. I definitely went for non-spicy soup. As for the husband, well, he asked for Level 2. We only had 2 hours to feast and since they have Haagen-Dazs ice-cream, we timed ourselves to only eat for 1 hour and the remaining hour to enjoy the ice-cream.

After we filled our stomach, we continued our sightseeing mission. First to Maokong. We took the gondola up the hill. It was very much like Penang Hill. As it was raining, we did not spend much time there and decided to head back to Taipei.

Next was Taipei 101. We wanted to enjoy the night view. However, the staff told us that it was really foggy and we would not have a great view and in turn, wasted the tickets. Hence, we took his advice and decided to come back again when the sky is clear..

Taiwan: Day 6 (Taipei)

On the second day in Taipei, we made it a Jiufen day. We were to spend the whole day in Jiufen. But it was raining when we arrived the place. Not just a simple rain. A heavy rain. It did stop after but for a short while before it started to rain cats and dogs again. It is a wonderful place. Good food with good view.

We took a break at Amay Teahouse. It was recommended by his cousin. Hence, we decided to check the place out. It is a bit pricey but worth the experience.

Not only you get to enjoy the tea, you can have a fantastic view from the tea house.

We took a bus back to Taipei and trust me, it was a thrilling ride – roads with sharp corners and all. Glad that we arrived Taipei safe and sound.

We had our dinner at a local shop close to our hotel. After we were done with our meals, we headed to Mango Cha Cha for dessert. The mango was sweet so, we loved it. As we were exhausted from walking the whole day in Jiufen, we called it the day while looking forward to our Mala Hot Pot tomorrow.

Taiwan: Day 5 (Taichung-Taipei)

I came across this Facebook post that Miyahara 宫原眼科 is one of the must-go places in Taichung. Even Xiao Chen told us the same. He said they serve delicious cheese cakes. We were really curious and went to this place in the morning before we left Taichung. Not only do they sell cakes, they sell ice-cream too. The queue was long but fast so, do drop by this place should you go to Taichung.

We took our last ride with THSR from Taichung to Taipei and yes, bought the ticket through Klook as well. Cheaper and hassle free.

When we finally reached Taipei, we took the subway to Ximending – where we would be staying for the remaining 4 nights. As our room was not ready, we decided to explore Ximending. I did a little bit of research that there’s one branch of One Piece Mugiwara Store and that’s where we spent most of our time at before we went back to the hotel.

That night, we were meeting up with one of my friends, Szu, whom I met during my internship in Shanghai. It’s been 7 years! Szu brought us to the local famous beef noodles shop. Lovin’ it.

She took us to The 58 to have some drinks. We met her friends there as well and they are really friendly and fun to talk to. We had a great catch up and will definitely meet up again should I visit Taiwan again.
