Good Friday

good-friday-austria

Good Friday is observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday. On this day, we commemorate the passion, or suffering and death on the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ.

We will spend this day in fasting, prayer, repentance and meditation on the agony and suffering of Christ on the cross.

The priest was telling us that we should start to make a change for example, get rid of our bad attitudes, our bad personality and all. I guess I have something that I want to do. Something that I believe would change my life in the future. However, it is not going to be easy but I am willing to give it a try..

Palm Sunday

IMAGE153_300

It is Palm Sunday today. It is the day the Christians celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, the week before his death and resurrection. For many Christian churches, Palm Sunday, also referred to as ‘Passion Sunday’, marks the beginning of the Holy Week, which concludes on Easter Sunday.

Jesus Christ was seen riding a donkey into Jerusalem. The symbolism of the donkey may refer to the Eastern tradition that it is an animal of peace, versus the horse, which is the animal of war. Therefore, Jesus’ entry to Jerusalem symbolised his entry as the Prince of Peace, not as a war-waging king.

No wonder the Priest was sharing with us that donkey is the main symbol for this celebration. He mentioned that donkeys were always on hard work in the past and therefore, donkeys were seen as humble animals.

When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds greeted him by waving palm branches and covered his path with palm branches. Immediately following this great time of celebration in the ministry of Jesus, he begins his journey to the cross which I will continue in the next post..

Abstain from Facebook

images

It was Ash Wednesday few days ago which marked the season of Lent. Lent is a 40-day period of preparation for Easter Sunday which will fall on April 24th. This season marked by prayer, fasting and abstinence and almsgiving.

When we, Catholics, talk about fasting, we normally mean restricting the food that we eat which is primarily a spiritual discipline designed to tame the body so that we can concentrate on higher things.

Fasting and abstinence are closely related but, there are some differences in these spiritual practices. When Catholics talk about fasting, we normally mean restricting the quantity of food that we eat. Abstinence refers to the avoidance of particular foods. The most common form of abstinence is the avoidance of meat, a spiritual practice that goes back to the earliest days of the Church.

I had been practicing Friday abstinence in the past but, it gradually worn off ever since I was an undergraduate. As for this year, I want to do something different. I had never done this before but for my own spiritual discipline, I would like to abstain from doing different things each week.

As a start, I will abstain myself from Facebook for a week.

Love

A kid asked Jesus: How much do u love me?

Jesus replied: I love you this much and he stretched his arms to the cross and died for us.

The kid asked Jesus: Why are here so many wounds on your body?

Jesus replied: These wounds show my love to you.

The kid asked Jesus: Why were you come to earth and sacrifice for us?

Jesus replied: Because of you I came, I gave my life, so that you will have my eternal life.

The kid asked Jesus: What should I do to pay the debt I owed to you?

Jesus replied: My son, this is not a debt, but a gift from me to you.

The kid asked Jesus: How can I receive your gift?

Jesus replied: Trust me and receive me in your life.

The kid asked Jesus: What can I do for you, LORD?

Jesus replied: Just one thing: Tell the world I love them.

I belive in God. Do you?
